Japan Record Awards at 5:30 PM in Japan, performing their single Super Shy. They wore the mourning ribbons during their performance.
At the ceremony, NewJeans became the only international artist to receive the Outstanding Work Award for their Japanese debut single Super Shy. This prestigious award recognizes 10 songs that have garnered significant public popularity over the year. This marks NewJeans’ second consecutive win at the ceremony, following last year’s success with Ditto. With this accolade, they were also nominated for the grand prize.
Background on the Incident:
On December 29, at approximately 9:03 AM, Jeju Air flight 7C 2216, carrying 181 people from Bangkok to Muan, experienced an accident while landing at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province. Of the 175 passengers and six crew members onboard, 175 passengers and four crew members tragically lost their lives, with two individuals sustaining injuries.
The South Korean government has declared a national mourning period until January 4 and has set up joint memorial altars at Muan Airport and across 17 cities and provinces to honor and remember the victims.
