ILLIT Releases First Japanese Original Song ‘Almond Chocolate’—A Bittersweet Love Confession

K-pop girl group ILLIT has unveiled their first-ever Japanese original song, Almond Chocolate, a bittersweet confession track filled with sweet yet heart-fluttering emotions for their "ultimate crush."

With its bright and upbeat sound, the song blends ILLIT’s pure and refreshing vocals, delivering a feel-good energy. The track features a captivating string ensemble and a repetitive, addictive chorus, making it easy to sing along. Hitmaker Pdogg, known for producing songs like Spring Day and Dynamite, teamed up with Nakajin, leader of the popular Japanese band SEKAI NO OWARI, to enhance the song’s quality.

A Special Film Full of Heartfelt Moments

Accompanying the song’s release, a special film showcases ILLIT’s charming visuals and youthful innocence. Each member is seen preparing a confession in their own way—writing heartfelt letters, dyeing their nails with balsam flowers as a symbol of love, and nervously anticipating the moment. The film’s ending, where they all gather as if something is about to begin, leaves fans intrigued.

Theme Song for a Hit Japanese Movie

Almond Chocolate has been selected as the theme song for the upcoming Japanese film "I Don't Like You Just Because of Your Face", based on a bestselling manga with over 2 million copies sold. The song was pre-released on Valentine’s Day, ahead of the movie’s official premiere on March 7, making it a potential new seasonal love anthem.

ILLIT’s Growing Popularity in Japan

Despite not yet releasing a full Japanese album, ILLIT’s presence in Japan is skyrocketing. Their song Magnetic ranked #3 on Japan TikTok’s "Top Songs 2024" and #5 on YouTube Shorts' "Most Popular Songs", making them the only K-pop girl group on these charts. They achieved the highest-ranking position for an international artist on Billboard Japan’s Year-End "Hot 100" and NTV's "Year-End Music Awards 2024". They became the first K-pop girl group in 13 years to win the Best New Artist Award at Japan’s most prestigious "Japan Record Awards."

  • ILLIT also made a landmark appearance on Japan’s legendary year-end music show "Kōhaku Uta Gassen", proving their widespread recognition.

With Almond Chocolate already creating buzz, ILLIT is set to further solidify their place in the Japanese music industry
