Taeyeon Shares Fan Statement Demanding Accountability for ‘Japan Concert Cancellation’

Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon has shared a statement from fans demanding accountability regarding the cancellation of her Japan concert.

On April 24th, Taeyeon directly shared on her SNS a statement released by a global fan union, titled “Feedback and Compensation Request Regarding the Cancellation of Taeyeon Concert ‘The TENSE’ in Tokyo.” Previously, Taeyeon’s solo debut 10th-anniversary concert ‘The TENSE’ was scheduled to be held at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan on April 19th-20th, but was suddenly cancelled two days before the performance.

SM Entertainment, Taeyeon’s agency, explained the reason for the cancellation, stating, “Equipment used for the Asia tour is being transported to Japan, but has not arrived as of now, making it very difficult to prepare sufficiently for the performance. After repeated consultations with relevant authorities, we have determined that it is difficult to hold the concert.”

Following this, Taeyeon expressed her feelings, saying, “I hate and am sorry for this whole situation. My concert, created with the efforts and expectations of everyone, has disappeared in an instant and feels stolen. I don’t know how to express this empty and frustrated feeling.” In response, Taeyeon’s global fan union demanded feedback regarding the unilateral and inconsiderate cancellation notice received two days before the Japan concert. They stated, “Despite the possibility of cancellation, no prior notice was given, and the cancellation was announced just two days before the performance. A seat announcement was scheduled through the ticket vendor on April 16th, but a postponement notice was announced on that day, and further postponed the following day on April 17th.”

They further pointed out, “This postponement process caused direct damage to numerous domestic and international fans who were already in Japan or on their way.”

They also criticized the lack of proper cancellation notice, stating, “This is considered a very irresponsible and insincere response, ignoring the seriousness of the situation. SM Entertainment’s inadequate response has caused significant economic and psychological damage to fans who had prepared transportation, flights, and accommodations.”

Specifically, they raised the issue of the lack of a direct apology and concrete compensation plan from SM Entertainment after the concert cancellation.

The global fan union stated, “The only means of communication on the day of the concert was a translated version of the notice posted on the Japanese website, and SM Entertainment has not yet made an official statement. By directing fans to the ticket vendor, they are avoiding responsibility as the principal party. This clearly demonstrates a failure to fulfill their responsibilities, which is unacceptable.” They concluded, “A thorough investigation of the circumstances must be conducted, the responsible parties must be identified, and measures must be taken against them. A formal apology and compensation plan for fans who have been affected must be announced promptly.”

Meanwhile, Taeyeon began her ‘The TENSE’ Asia tour in Seoul in March. She has completed performances in Taipei, Taiwan, Manila, Philippines, and Jakarta, Indonesia, and is scheduled to continue the tour in Singapore, Bangkok, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
